BenchCount – AI Counting of Parts on a Benchtop

Improve Your Counting Operations with AI

Benchtop AI Counting Solutions

BenchCount is a flexible benchtop counting machine that uses machine vision and AI to count parts in a defined viewing area or tray. It delivers fast, accurate piece‑counts for small batches, kitting, and off‑line QC operations without the complexity of integrating directly over a conveyor.

What BenchCount Counts

BenchCount is suited for applications where operators present parts to the system in discrete batches rather than continuously on a belt.

Typical use cases:

  • Counting small parts and hardware in trays for kitting or service packs.
  • Verifying quantities for small orders, returns, or rework lots.
  • Off‑line verification of bag or box counts pulled from production for QA.
  • Lab or engineering environments where quick, reliable sample counts are needed.

Because parts are presented in a defined area under the camera, the system can handle a variety of shapes and sizes with simple recipe changes.

How BenchCount Works

Operators place parts in a designated counting zone—such as a tray, plate, or shallow bowl—and initiate the counting cycle.

  • A camera captures one or more images of the parts within the zone.
  • Vision and AI algorithms locate each valid part based on size, shape, and contrast.
  • The system calculates the count and presents the result on the HMI or sends it to a connected device.
  • If needed, the operator can add or remove items and re‑count in seconds.

This workflow makes it easy for a single operator to process many small batches throughout a shift.

Technology and AI Capabilities

BenchCount uses similar ConveyorCount in-house developed AI technology developed here in the US.  We do not rely on 3rd party APIs or cloud storage systems.  This is important to our clients where IP or other part/product data should remain on-premise for security or competitive reasons.

  • Machine vision tools for object detection, tracking, and background suppression.
  • AI‑driven classification to recognize valid parts and ignore debris or foreign objects.
  • Handling of variable orientation, spacing, and minor overlap between items.
  • Optional real‑time quality checks, such as detecting missing features or damaged products while counting.

Performance and Throughput

While not intended for continuous high‑speed conveyor operation, BenchCount is optimized for quick batch processing.

  • Counts are returned in a fraction of a second to a few seconds, depending on image size and complexity.
  • Batches can be cycled rapidly, allowing many kits or orders to be processed per hour.
  • Accuracy is stable across shifts and users, with no fatigue‑related drift.

It’s especially effective when you need precise counts but volumes don’t justify a full in‑line solution—or when you want a flexible supplement to one.
