Benchtop Vision Inspection
Inspect round, tall and asymmetric parts from every side.
The Sciotex Benchtop Vertical Inspection Platform rotates each part on a precision base while cameras image it through a full 360°. AI inspection software finds surface defects, verifies features and checks basic dimensions, so operators no longer turn parts by hand.
Every side imaged as the part rotates
Scratches, dents, chips and voids

Benchtop Vertical Platform
A vertical vision inspection system holds a part upright and rotates it in front of one or more cameras, so the software sees the whole circumference. It replaces turning parts by hand under a magnifier with an automated, repeatable pass/fail decision.
The platform fits on a bench, cart or inside a cell, and suits engineering labs, QA departments and low to medium volume production. It is one of three benchtop and inline vision inspection machines from Sciotex, and is designed, programmed and built in-house in the US.

What It Inspects
The platform suits parts that are best viewed upright and need to be checked all the way around. Several part families can run on the same system by changing fixtures and software recipes.
How It Works
A controlled rotation profile keeps speed and position consistent, and the cameras capture images at set angles or continuously while the part turns. The software analyzes each view and combines the results into one inspection decision.
The operator places the part upright in a quick-change fixture and selects its recipe.
The base turns through a programmed rotation while cameras and lighting capture every angle.
AI software flags defects, checks dimensions and gives one pass/fail result for the part.
Why Vertical Inspection
A person checking a round part sees one side at a time and judges it by eye. The vertical platform images the whole surface and applies the same criteria to every part. See how the two approaches compare in machine vision vs. manual inspection.
Defects on the back of a part are found as reliably as those on the front.
Parts sit in a fixture while the base turns, so nobody rotates or repositions them.
Tolerance rules and defect thresholds are set to your standards and applied every time.
Fits on a bench, cart or in a cell where an inline system will not.
Capabilities and Options
Sciotex AI inspection software turns the image stream from the rotating part into decisions and data. Each capability is configured to your parts and quality standards.
| Surface defects | Scratches, dents, chips, voids and discoloration |
|---|---|
| Feature verification | Presence, position and completeness of features around the circumference |
| Dimensional checks | Diameters, heights from a reference and positional tolerances, using calibrated optics |
| Classification and grading | Defect types sorted and graded, for example cosmetic vs. functional |
| Rotation | Adjustable speed for detailed inspection or faster sampling |
| Cameras | Optional multi-camera setups for simultaneous top and side views or different magnifications |
| Recipes | Saved camera settings, lighting and AI models for each part number |
| Data | Results stay on-premise, with no third-party APIs or cloud systems |

Scaling up: the same imaging and AI software can move into a fully automated cell such as RobotVIEW when volumes grow.
Custom Systems
When a standard platform does not fit your parts or your line, Sciotex engineers the system around your part geometry, defect types and process.
Hand inspection of round parts means turning each one under a light and hoping nothing was missed on the far side. The vertical platform images the full circumference on every part and saves the result, giving you a record of each inspection. Learn how vision inspection systems work.

FAQ
It is a vision system that images a part from every side, usually by rotating the part in front of one or more cameras, so defects and features all the way around are checked automatically.
